Saturday Apr 13, 2019
Saturday Apr 13, 2019
Terry Gilliam took almost thirty years to bring The Man Who Killed Don Quixote to the screen. So was it worth the weight? Russ and Zach weigh in. After that, there's a talk about Hellboy, which was surprisingly good!

In Vitam Mortem: Talking Deadly Class #1
Wednesday Apr 10, 2019
Wednesday Apr 10, 2019
Nya, Nicole, and Russ break down the first issue of Deadly Class, the Image Comics series from writer Rick Remender, artist Wes Craig, colorist Lee Loughridge, and letterer Rus Wooton.
It's a great start for what turned out to be one of Image's best and most original series in years, spawning a TV series that will debut later this week (don't worry, we'll get to that). But how does it age?
That's what we're here to talk about.
You'll have to excuse Russ's clunky walk through the story: he was using a big-ass hardcover book to read from, which is great because it has bonus features but less great because it is unweildy and there is no clear delineation between issues. We promise that won't be a problem next time we talk about the comics.
If you want to pick up a copy of the issue, the best possible way to do it right now is on Humble Bundle, where Remender has put the entire series (35 issues to date) up for sale for a low, low price of $15 USD, and part of the money goes to mental health charities. Check that out here!
If you are excited about the show and feeling like you want to support some of the terrific cast, you can also contribute to VOKRA, a charity that protects stray and feral cats in British Columbia, and qualify to get some amazing Deadly Class items in return, thanks to Siobhan Williams, who plays Brandy. Check that out here!

ECV #100
Saturday Apr 06, 2019
Saturday Apr 06, 2019
In this week’s episode, Emerald City Video turns 100. To celebrate 100 episodes of the podcast and acknowledge the 10th anniversary of Emerald City Video closing its doors, Russ is gathering a diverse group of customers, employees, and friends of the store to talk about their favorite memories of ECV and what the home video industry in general meant to them.
This week: Russ Burlingame (@russburlingame on Twitter), Zach Roberts (@zdroberts), Logan Bretschneider, and Carla Lauter(@beerbabe). We talk about the good old days and openly acknowledge that we are glancing over the bad stuff. But ah, well.
There is also a new format for the show — rather than just having “theme” episodes tossed haphazardly into the rotation, new episodes of ECV 100 (excepting this one) will run on Mondays. Tuesdays will be Countdown to Crisis, a look at The CW’s “Arrowverse” shows as that universe winds its way to Crisis on Infinite Earths. Wednesdays will be Spinner Rack episodes, talking about comic books and related media with a variety of voices. Thursdays will be looking at TV — with a focus at the beginning on Riverdale, as Russ is bringing episodes of Archie Digest: A Riverdale Podcast to ECV. And Fridays will be New Release Wallepisodes, where Russ and Zach (and/or whoever else can join in) do immediate postmortems on brand-new movies.

Archie Digest: A Riverdale Podcast Remembers Luke Perry
Tuesday Mar 05, 2019
Tuesday Mar 05, 2019
This was not the Episode 99 that we wanted or expected.
Russ brings the Archie Digest: A Riverdale Podcast hosts together for the first time this season to remember Luke Perry, the actor who played Fred Andrews on Riverdale. Perry passed away on Monday at age 52 following a stroke last week.
Russ, Craig Byrne, and Chris Hayner all had positive experiences to relate about meeting and working with Perry, and ECV is sending warm feelings and deep condolences out to his family.
Next episode, everything changes.
