New Release Wall #5 - Spider-Man: Homecoming Reactions
Saturday Jul 08, 2017
Saturday Jul 08, 2017
Just like we did after watching Transformers: The Last Knight (you can hear that one here), Russ and Zach got out of Spider-Man: Homecoming and immediately spent virtually the entire runtime of the movie talking about it.
We liked this one significantly more, but still had LOTS AND LOTS to nitpick, so if you're going to take it personally that we picked on some stuff...maybe hold off on this one until you've got a little emotional distance from your first viewing.
Both of us agreed is is a 3.5-star or 4-star (out of 5) movie.

New Release Wall #4 - Transformers: The Last Knight Reactions
Wednesday Jun 21, 2017
Wednesday Jun 21, 2017
A little change of format: Russ and Zach talk about their reactions to Transformers: The Last Knight while sitting in the car immediately after having seen the film.
Why in the car? Well, it IS a Transformers movie, after all...!
We also have some nods to Every Frame a Painting's episode on "Bayhem," which you can see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2THVvshvq0Q
And to Lindsay Ellis's ongoing series on Michael Bay, The Whole Plate, the most recent of which you can see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhmyIb5CF9s

The Netflix Algorithm Sucks
Wednesday Jun 07, 2017
Wednesday Jun 07, 2017
In which Russ and Zach go to the heart of why the Emerald City Video Podcast exists, and explore how terrible Netflix, Amazon, and other digital video services are at actually recommending movies you might actually want to watch.
A rant.

Episode 13: Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2/Big Trouble in Little China
Friday May 05, 2017
Friday May 05, 2017
It’s time: Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 is here, and we’re going to talk about it, along with Big Trouble in Little China!
Since Russ is footing the bill for hosting and had to buy some new editing software recently so that he can make all this magic happen quickly and quietly, we’ll probably put together some kind of Patreon so that you can sponsor the show in exchange for swag soon enough. For now, though, if you want to contribute anything and everything, you can do so at Paypal.me/emeraldcityvideo.

Episode 11: If You Like Riverdale, Try...
Wednesday Mar 29, 2017
Wednesday Mar 29, 2017
Following on the heels of the two-part crossover between ECV and Archie Digest: A Riverdale Podcast, Zach and Russ took it easy to talk...well...Riverdale again.
Except this time it's a five-for-five, and instead of Deidre and Laney Rob a Train, it's for Riverdale itself, meaning that we're talking a lot of TV instead of movies.
You can hear the first part of the crossover here and the second part here.

Anyone who contributes $10 and up will get an 8”x10”, framed original photo of Pop’s Chock’Lit Shoppe, taken by Russ Burlingame during one of our visits to the set of Riverdale.
We've also put together a RedBubble Store at https://www.redbubble.com/people/archiedigest/ where you will be able to get t-shirts, stickers, cell phone cases, and other goods inspired by Riverdaleand our show. Currently there's just one design -- #SheriffKiller -- but there's more to come in the next few days.
Lastly, you can check out a new tie-in comic Russ wrote for The Belko Experiment -- in theaters now -- at http://tinyurl.com/belkocomic. The story is set within the narrative of the film, which comes from director Greg McLean and writer James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, Slither).

Some of Bill Paxton's Best and Most Underrated Gems
Sunday Mar 12, 2017
Sunday Mar 12, 2017
This episode, we mourn the passing of Bill Paxton with a discussion that ranges widely (you're shocked, I'm sure), but always comes back to how awesome he was and how much better he made everything he was in.

Episode 9: If You Liked JOHN WICK, Try These...
Tuesday Feb 14, 2017
Tuesday Feb 14, 2017
It's not a five for five deal, but it's something else that you might remember from the days of brick and mortar video stores being a commonplace thing: "If you like this, try this..."
We remember back when we used to have to fill out these little employee recommendation cards for major new releases, and here, we get to do it all over again...but on the internet. And with audio.
Also, I think we forgot to introduce ourselves, so bear in mind this episode is Russ and Zach.
Anyway, with John Wick 2: Electric Bugaloo in theaters now, we figured it was as good a time as any to make some suggestions for movies you can watch if you really enjoyed John Wick.
Also, Russ and Zach both have new podcasts. Check 'em out here:
The Insurgency USA Podcast with Zach Roberts
Archie Digest: A Riverdale Podcast with Russ Burlingame, Craig Byrne, and Chris Hayner

The Comic Book Movies of 2016
Tuesday Jan 03, 2017
Tuesday Jan 03, 2017
There were just a WHOLE LOT of comic book movies in 2016, and there’s going to be a WHOLE LOT MORE in 2017.
And since Russ works at a comic book news website (comicbook.com, in case you’re wondering) and Zach pitches in there too from time to time, it seemed like taking stock of last year’s comic book movies was kind of a no-brainer.
Especially since we are diametrically opposed to the opinions held by most critics…!

New Release Wall #1 - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Friday Dec 23, 2016
Friday Dec 23, 2016
Russ and Zach review Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and...mostly get off on tangents or nitpick tiny plot points that don't need it.
